Do I need a special drill to run my Power Planter?
No it will work on just about any drill that has a normal 10 or 13mm chuck. But it will work better with higher quality cordless drills that are safe and easy to use with Power Planter. We use and recommend DeWalt drills because they are built well and designed to keep working.
Can I use the longer 24 inch (60cm) Power Planter™ with my Cordless Battery Drill?
Yes you can. Make sure you follow the directions in the training video we provide. Here is a link to the video LINK
The longer 324H model needs a drill with a 13mm chuck which 80% of Drills in Australia have. The other smaller Power Planters only need a 10mm chuck (or larger)
I'm concerned that the Power Planter will twist out of shape and end up a bent useless piece of metal!
A valid concern... but the shaft of these is very heavy solid steel that doesn't bend or twist at all. It's been made in the USA by hand to last a lifetime. The steel shaft is 5/8th inch (16mm) thick with a hex shaped non slip drive end - That means it goes into your drill chuck and doesn't lose grip like a round end would. But do take care to tighten your chuck fully so you don't strip the hex shaped head.Even though this is promoted as a new product here in Australia- It has been around in the USA for many years and has stood the test of time.
Is it going to wear out?
When you use it in the ground, the paint will wear off, but it is only cosmetic. The main shaft is unlikely to wear down and it will take a lot of use before you will see any wear on the flighting (that's the spiral bit) These units are commercial grade, excellent quality. And just to give you complete assurance, we have a 30 day return policy in place.
I have arthritis/weak bones. Can I still use this?
This product might not be suitable for you, but we do have lots of customers with physical ailments who are raving about how much it has helped them.
If you follow the directions we give in THIS VIDEO
it is very safe even if you have limited arm strength. It is not the same as using a big post hole digger. Because it is much smaller it is easy to manoeuvre. So you can use it to cultivate compacted garden beds with ease.
Make sure the drill is running on the slowest speed (often marked '1') and use a side handle on the drill so that you can have 2 hands holding it firmly. When using it with a larger 240V powered drill, I brace it against my leg to give more control.DO NOT USE the Impact driver setting if your drill has this as an option. It is too fast and powerful to use with the Power Planter.
Should I use the Drill on Hammer Mode?
No this is not necessary and would likely damage the hex shaped end with the repeated piston like action. We cannot replace units that have had the hex end damaged by your drill. Please take care to make sure the chuck is very tight and periodically check that it hasn't loosened off due to the vibration of digging. With proper use and care, the end will not get damaged. Follow the directions in THIS VIDEO
Should I use the Drill on Impact Driver Mode?
No this is not necessary and would likely damage the hex shaped end. Some drills have an impact driver mode and it is important that you DON'T select this mode as it runs very fast and strong. The Power Planter only works safely on slow speeds.
I'm not sure which Power Planter™ to buy first?
If you can afford it, buy them all as you will love having the different sizes all within reach when gardening. (Enter Discount Code: JOBLOT4 to get 25% off when you buy all 4 in one transaction)
Having used all 4 models I can testify that each gets well used.If you have a fair bit of landscaping to do, then I would go straight for the Model 324. It is 24in (60cm) long and when combined with the drill length, you can comfortably stand up whilst drilling holes, cultivating soil, mixing batches of mortar, paint, mixing in fertiliser to the soil and so much more. It is easily the most used Power Planter™ in my collection. I would not easily part with it!If you love planting annuals, and vegie seedlings, then the 207 model (smaller hole in the range) is just perfect. It gives great root-to-soil contact and the depth means the roots will go strong and deep which promotes better plant growth overall. To make it easier, we have added a Package Deal with a Power Planter 324, 312, 307, 207 for a job lot price of 25% off when you get all 4.
